Thracian culture

Due to the Thracian’s lack of writing, today we aren’t familiar with the Thracian history and culture, but, like many nations in the ancient times the Thracian culture was related to their religion.

In the Hellenic epoch (after IV b. C.) the Thracian aristocracy gradually began adopting the life and culture of the ancient Helens. During the feasts, the wealthy Thracians used the well-known vessels made in the form of an animal or human head, which has been proved by the treasure of Panagiurishte. There can be seen images of fantastic creatures with dynamic postures as if they were alive.

The Thracians paid special attention to the training of their children. The boys were trained to be warriors, but the girls didn’t study. The Thracians treated their women, as many other nations did, as servants.

When summarizing the Thracian contribution to the world culture and in particular in the culture found on our lands, the eminent thracologist A. Fol emphasizes the role played by the Thracian tribes in the formation of the Indo-European community, to which they belonged, to which they left their ethnical and cultural mark.
