Kazanlak

In the middle of our country, cuddled between the two big mountain ranges Stara planina and Sredna gora, is situated the Kazanlak valley. The land, amazing with its beauty, inebriates with its sweet scents and fascinates with its ancient history. It has oblong and irregular shape.

Situated in the middle, 3 km. north of Tundza river, on the two river banks of Stara reka, beats the heart of the Rose valley - the little town of Kazanlak. Folded with care by the hugs of Stara planina, the town is beyond description, as if it is a picture painted by God himself. It is also the natural geographic centre of Bulgaria.

Kazanlak takes important place in the economics of the country. Developing branches are arms industry, food and tobacco industries, production of woolen and silk textiles, manufacturing of music instruments, perfumery and cosmetics, hydraulic and pneumatic products. Well developed is the forestry.

The local people grow grain crops, oil-bearing roses, other luxury-oil crops, vines, fruit plantations and farming. In the town there is a research institute of roses, other oil and medicinal plants.

The natural conditions-soil and climate are a precondition for the surrounding of Kazanlak to have been overcrowded since ancient times. After the amazing discoveries in the last years the Kazanlak region is now known as "The valley of the Thracian kings". Not by chance the archeologists give this honour to the town. They find that Kazanlak lands have taken important place in the historical development of the Balkans. This is evidence for the authenticity and the richness of the history of the town, connected with the Thracian presence on these lands. It is also the thing that gives the town the right to be the diamond in the crown of the Thracian inheritance.
