Thracian crafts
Lands of Thracia were fertile, a perfect place for growing
different agricultures. For Thracians, most spreaded cultures were oats, flax,
hemp and wheat. The more the instruments of production got better, the more the
harvest got larger. Viticulture, wine producing and apiculture were very
developed, too, mostly in the southern parts of Thracia. There were many kinds
of wine. Wine was a holy drink for the Thracians. Wine-givers were very
respected while tsar-feasts were held; when the rulers splashed the wine, they
showed their high position. Thracians manufactured big amounts of wax and honey
–
one of the most popular
and searched goods in the Ancient times. According to tribes’ production they
were separated to
agricultural and stockbreeding. Stockbreeding tribes lived in the high mountain
grazing lands, where they brought up their numerous herds and flocks. Their
pure-breed horses were their big proud. These tribes used to mine copper,
silver, gold and iron.
Thracians made their clothes from wool, flax and hemp, even from leather for the colder winters.
In the
Ancient times production and trade relations through the Thracian lands were
highly developed. Thracians
manufactured many goods, and sold part of them on the market. They had constant
trade relations with the ancient Greeks. That is how the Greek culture and
tradition influenced the Thracians, which consequently became part of their way
of living.
